Game Day!!!

Well for me today wasn't as fun but I knew I would be able to really see what the children have learned this year.

Each table picked a subject out of a "hat" and had to make a game with questions for our fellow students to complete. The subjects were math, ELA, science, & social students. The students really enjoyed this activity. They had to create the questions, game board, pieces, and directions. They had about 2 hours because each game had to have a minimum of 20 questions. After lunch they then rotated between the games and got to play them.

They really enjoyed creating and playing their games.

1 more day!!!!!!

Last Day Blues!!!

What an exhausting but wonderful week.

The students began our day by listening to our last read aloud, "Last Day Blues" by Julie Danneberg. They also had a corresponding book study packet that correlates with it. Then we began our 2nd grade memory book. After that was lunch then a dance party. Finally, what always makes us feel better? ICE CREAM!!!!

We gave our "graduating" 5th graders a clap out. I hugged my little brainiacs goodbye and waved them a "see you next year".

Happy summer🐠🌺☀️

Pajama Day

Yesterday was pajama day and I have to say that it was another fun filled day with my students. They are such an amazing and diverse group.

The activities that this day entailed were designing their own pajamas, creating a unique sleeping mask, math and language arts review, and weiting about their favorite dream using descriptive writing.

Our snack of the day was flavored popcorn. Then we graphed our classes favorite flavors. It was a blast!

2 more days with these precious children. It is bitter sweet.

Kamp Keomany

This sums up my day:

Again, we did have another productive and engaging day of learning.

We wrote and shared our stories around our camp fire, we had lots of ELA & math review activities. The best part was having my students get to experience making friendship bracelets. Not one of my students knew how to make a friendship bracelet. There was a very eye opening experience as well. A couple of my girls knew how to braid so that is how they made their friendship bracelets. The shocking part was finding out how many of my little male friends had no idea how to tie their shoes so it was a long tedious lesson of teaching them how to tie knots.  I'm so appreciative that I have such a caring and loving group of students because I couldn't of held my sanity if I had to help them all. I even had a student come tell me "I had to R to stop talking and on concentrate at the task at hand" I know that many children mimic you and what you say but that just tops the cake. I can't express how much I adore these little ones.

Then after all these festivities our snack of the day was of course S'mores. I forgot to take a picture of those 😫 but my students seemed to enjoy them!!

Beach Day!!!

We are rounding up our 2014-2015 school year. I wanted to have fun with my kiddos. This is such a great group of friends I have this year. I'm going to miss them dearly.

For the last week together I have planned themed days. Monday we had beach day. The students wore their beach attire (flip-flops, sunglasses, and shorts). Then we had stations throughout the day. We wrote about our experiences with sancastles then had a craftivity to correspond with our writing. Then we wrote about what we would do if we ever visited the ocean, and finally they wrote about why they are flipping out over summer break. Our science activity was ocean in a bottle. We had a beach ball toss review on our math skills and lastly I made them a beach ball cookie cake.

And finally the grand finally....

My students were so engaged for our final Monday together.

Social Studies Projects

We have had many social studies projects this year. Students had choice boards to choose what they would like to complete for their projects. Here are just some of the ones that they did.

A students made a poster board with facts from Jimmy Carter's life.

Here is a depiction of Jimmy Carter's peanut farm in Plains, Georgia.

This is a student's project where they chose a region of Georgia and tried to persuade me to visit their region over the other regions using facts.

When we studied Martin Luther King Jr. Student's had to write about dreams they had for their family, their community, their school, and our country.

The next set of projects was from when we studied Mary Musgrove, Tomochichi, and James Oglethorpe. The student's chose one of our founding figures and then had to write a biography about that person.

I do have to say my student's really enjoyed these projects. They also made movies depecting the compromise of the Native American and English Settlers. As well as many more projects.

Projects

My students have been extremely busy this year being involved in PBL's. They have made a movie on how Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and James Olgethorpe compromised to make Georgia. I wish I could post the videos but the format isn't compatible.

They made dioramas depecting how the Creek and Cherokee Native Americans used natural resources to live in Georgia and what their villages looked like.

They have made presentations comparing their life today to that of a Creek or Cherokee Native American.

When learning about force and motion they had to make a "mouse trap" obstical course. Then explain what objects were used and what kind of force it was using: Gravity, push, pull, friction, inertia, or centripetal force.

My students were leaning about "sequencing, steps in a technical process, and how to writing".  Lowe's, around my house, generously donated their left over workshop supplies. The students had to put the item together. They had to explain what happened or happens if you don't follow directions correctly in the technical process. Then they had to write a how to paper on how to put together their project.

This was a blast.

We had many more projects and can't wait to post about them later.

Arts For Learning

My school has been blessed with the opportunity to be involved in a program "Arts For Learning". My students are acting out scenes from "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs". They are so engaged and having so much fun.
